Waxes and silicones don’t cut it!
Find out more about HySpeedKote™:
Waxes, silicones, and other sealants that many boaters apply to enhance performance, or those contained in gelcoat as part of the mould release process, are actually counterproductive. These water repelling coatings, called hydrophobic, create a "dry" surface that only increases drag.
Since HySpeedKote™ is a hydrophilic coating, one that attracts water, it allows your boat to move through the water with less effort, regardless of composition, configuration, or size.
Once applied - a light misting is all that's required - this long lasting polymer coating dramatically reduces the drag caused by surface tension between water and underwater surfaces. In fact, the more coated surface in the water the greater the increase in efficiency. (It can be applied over antifoul but its long-lasting qualities of HySpeedKote™ will be diminished as the bottom antifoul paint erodes.)
It works like this…
Once the coating has been applied and left to air dry for 1 hour, the boat is launched and left in the water for 1 hour. This is called the wet-out period. During this time the polymer in HySpeedKote™ slowly expands just as a dry sponge does after being placed in water.
Think of the expanding polymer as millions of small branches growing from the bottom surface of your boat (barely visible to the human eye). At the end of each branch are hydroxyls. Like magnets, these hydroxyls bond the water molecules to the polymer. This is how HySpeedKote™ keeps a continuous film of water on all water and snow equipment to reduce drag.
Simply put, Nature's demonstration of the hydrophilic effect is a fish. When a fish is pulled from the water a layer of water continues to surround its body. That’s why it can leap out of your hands so easily. The hydrophilic effect is a major reason why fish glide through and in and out of the water so effortlessly.
Environmentally friendly
HySpeedKote™ not only cuts down on fuel costs but it also helps to reduce your carbon footprint.
The retail D.I.Y. spray can is pre-charged with compressed air and doesn't contain any harmful CFC gases. HySpeedKote™ is non-toxic, non-ablative and once applied, non-soluble, so it presents no danger to marine life.
