How to apply

Watch this video and follow the steps below to find out how to apply HySpeedKote™:

Step-by-Step Directions

Just as HySpeedKote™ is different from other hull treatments so is its application. A common problem many first-time users have is spraying too thick a layer onto a given surface. The best results are achieved by APPLYING A LIGHT MIST. That's really all it takes. A thicker layer won't harm anything, but you won't get maximum coverage per ounce and the surface may turn a light amber after application, solely a cosmetic problem.

  1. Prepare the surface by removing all foreign matter, dirt, grease, and moisture. DO NOT SPRAY ON A HOT SURFACE OR IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. It's a good idea to finish the cleaning process by wiping down the surface to be coated with isopropyl alcohol.
  2. When sprayed, HSK is barely visible and appears to dry instantly. A good way to keep track of the surface being coated is to divide the hull into sections by placing strips of masking tape along the hull every 2 feet, just above the waterline.
  3. Before coating the hull, practice on a piece of scrap material to get a feel for how HySpeedKote™ flows. Practice misting the material rather than painting it. Remember, the best results are achieved by applying a light mist.
  4. Spray approximately 8” to 12" from the surface. Move rapidly in a steady motion keeping the can perpendicular to the surface. Coat the area of the hull that is continually exposed to water. Also coat trim tabs, lower units and all underwater hardware. (not your propellers)
  5. Allow one hour of curing time before launching the vessel. After launching, let the boat sit in the water for a minimum of one-hour. This "wet-out" time allow HySpeedKote™ to absorb water. The wet-out process applies to first time use only.

REMOVAL: Use isopropyl alcohol and a clean cloth to remove HySpeedKote™. For best results do a small area then repeat. Clean up is done with isopropyl alcohol.

SURFACE AMBERING: Excessive application of HySpeedKote™ may produce an amber coloured surface. Should this occur, gently wiping the coated surface with a clean cloth slightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol will remove the excess product and not affect the performance.

CLOGGING: If the spray tip should become plugged wipe with a cloth slightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol.

When applying HySpeedKote™, remember that MORE IS NOT BETTER.
